Making flavoured yogurt is easy, healthy and delicious! This post includes 3 flavour combinations, which can be made with your favourite type of yogurt. Perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

Flavoured yogurt can be made using a wide range of ingredients creating endless flavour combinations, especially if you do it yourself!
Yogurt - both plain as well as flavoured - makes a healthy, delicious snack. However, when it comes to commercially produced flavoured yogurt there are so many varieties it can be difficult to decide which is healthy and which is more dessert than yogurt. Because despite boasting nutritional benefits many yogurts are high in sugar.
This is why it's best to buy plain yogurt and flavour it yourself! See recipes below.
Why it's a good idea to make your own flavoured yogurt
- You can adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
- Homemade fruit flavoured yogurt always tastes better than store bought.
- You can create your own unique yogurt flavour.
- You can make a large batch, keep it refrigerated and enjoy over several days.
- It's cheaper to make your own.
Ingredients and substitutions
- Yogurt: see below.
- Raspberries: you can use any berries.
- Cocoa powder: use cacao powder instead, if preferred.
- Espresso coffee powder.
- Maple syrup: you can use honey or another sweetener, instead.
- Prunes.
Which yogurt to use
You can add flavour to any plain yogurt so use your favourite. To make sure your homemade flavoured yogurt is truly healthy opt for yogurts with added probiotics, which have additional health benefits. Low fat Greek yogurt is a good choice, and so are yogurt-style products, such as Skyr and quark. Although you may not love these products on their own (I personally find them a bit acidic) they work great in flavoured yogurt recipes.

1. Mocha Yogurt
This coffee and cocoa infused yogurt is a great alternative to morning coffee. Only 5 ingredients and ready in 3 minutes!
Other mocha recipes you might enjoy include mocha overnight oats and quinoa energy balls.
2. Raspberry Yogurt
This fruity yogurt can be made using fresh or frozen fruit so it’s an all-season recipe. It comes together by cooking the fruit briefly to reduce its water content before combining with the yogurt (adding fresh fruit to the yogurt would turn it into a smoothie!)
I used a similar method in my cherry overnight oats with cocoa recipe, which you might also like.
3. Prune yogurt
This 2-ingredient flavoured yogurt is high in fibre and does not contain any added sugar.
You might also like these chocolate energy balls which are made with prunes.
Serving suggestions
Homemade flavoured yogurts can be served on their own as a snack or light breakfast. Alternatively add toppings, such as fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, as well as muesli or granola for a more satisfying breakfast.
How to add more protein
Adding more protein to your flavoured yogurt is easy to do. Simply swap 2 tablespoons of yogurt for the same amount of cottage cheese (regular or low-fat) and puree along with the other ingredients.
Top tips
- Use your favourite yogurt.
- Adjust the amount of sweetness to your taste.
- Refrigerate, covered, for up to 5 days.
- Freeze for up to 3 months.

I've been using fruit puree baby food to flavor yogurt for decades. Apricot and prune are especially delicious and result in a wonderful texture.

That's clever!

Hi Monika! Would it be possible to make these flavourings in advance, store them in an airtight container in the fridge and mix them into the yoghurt just before eating? If this is possible, about how many cups of 160ml yoghurt do you think the amount of flavourings in the recipes can be used with? I'm planning on making homemade yoghurt and your flavourings seem amazing. Thanks!
Monika says
Hi Caroline! I don't see why it wouldn't be possible though I can't tell you exactly how long the mixture will stay fresh for. 3-4 days seems like a safe estimate. 1 cup of yogurt is about 250 g/ml so for 160 ml you will need to use a little less flavouring than in the recipe (approx. 1/3 less). Hope this helps!

making flavored yogurt at home is the best. As you mentioned one can control the amount of sugar in it or use a healthy alternate. Love the mocha one the best... so different.
Monika says
Thank you! Mocha was everyone's favourite in my house too!

And to think I just drop in some berries or mix in a little jam! No more! Each one of these is better than the next!

Thanks!

what a great post Monika I always flavour my own yogurt but so many people would not realise how easy that is to do.

Thanks Jacqui! It's true, sometimes simple ideas are not necessarily very obvious!
